Making a List

A List is a handy way to show everyone what you have up for trade, with contact information on it.

Where to Make Your List

Website

This is by far the most popular type of list. The easiest way to do this is to go to a site like Weebly, Wix, WordPress, Google Sites, or Carrd. All of these sites will let you make a site for free. There are no real skills required to make a site using those services either. They are very user-friendly and intuitive.

Weebly has recently (as of around 2019) gained a bad reputation because they've begun deleting many trader's sites. Always keep a backup of your list.
Encora (the encore)
This is a revival of the original encora, which was shut down. Like the original, it has a database of bootlegs you can help grow. You can make an account and use the database create a list of the things you have, and add it to the database if it's not already there. The more people who help it grow, the easier it will get for everyone to use.
Updatable Sheet
Go to Google Sheets and make your list there. Hand out a view only link to people. This method is useful because if you edit your list, you don't have to give people new links all the time!
PDF
Less common. Basically you make your list in a Word document, spreadsheet, or some other program and save it as a PDF so that people who don’t own a copy of Microsoft Word can also read it. You upload this PDF or other document to a site like Hosting Site, etc, and give the link to others. This method is more private, but it reaches less people.

How to Make Your List

First of all, have a separate section for videos, and audios! You can even have specific sections for shows you have many of, but separate Video and Audio sections are the most important.
Video
  • For each video in your collection, list the date, location, cast, and filetype. If this in unknown, try to Google it. If you still don't know, you can post a link to a short clip or the first VOB of the video and other traders can try to help you identify it. The more information you have about what you have, the more valuable what you have is.
  • Put your Shows in alphabetical order. If you have multiple boots of a certain show, list them in chronological order (oldest to newest).
  • List whether or not your video is NFT.
  • List dates in the YEAR-MONTH-DAY format. Specify at the top of your list which date format you use. Even if you don't end up using the YEAR-MONTH-DAY format, choose ONE format and stick to it.
  • Provide extra information if available. Such as if a member of the cast is an understudy, what role each cast member is playing, or if it is the closing night, the second national tour, etc.
  • List the Master of your videos if you know.
Audio
  • For each audio in your collection, list the date, location, cast, and filetype. If this in unknown, try to Google it. If you still don't know, you can post a link to a short clip of the audio and other traders can try to help you identify it. The more information you have about what you have, the more valuable what you have is.

  • Provide extra information if available. Such as if a member of the cast is an understudy, what role each cast member is playing, or if it is the closing night, the second national tour, etc.
  • List whether or not your audio is Tracked, meaning that the audio is separated into different songs and into different acts. An audio separated only by acts is not considered tracked.
  • List the Master of your audios if you know.
Extras
  • If a show starts with "The", don't put it in the "T" section. For example, "The Phantom of the Opera" goes in the "P" section.
  • If you speak any language besides English, mention it!
  • Put the date you last updated your list somewhere on it. This is useful because if you haven’t updated your list since 2005, others will see that and know that you’re long gone. Also, it lets people know that you are still active, so you'll get more business.
  • DO NOT list the cast with the only the term “OBC”. This is generally not appreciated, and is a red flag for many traders. Be specific!
  • Don't choose a font that’s difficult to read.
  • Don't forget to leave people a way to contact you!
One more thing. The Disclaimer you see around different sites is completely and utterly useless. It has no legal basis and will not protect you.
